Baltimore County Animal Services (BCAS) is tackling the issue of pet overpopulation and abandonment with a reinforced sense of community and responsibility, launching the "Life is Better with Pets" campaign, as informed by an announcement on the Baltimore County website. This initiative promotes responsible pet ownership and aims to celebrate the bond between pets and their humans by offering free microchipping and sharing success stories of adoptions.

With an ambitious target of administering 500 microchips in October, BCAS also offers free microchip services to ensure more pets can be returned to their owners when lost. Offering services significant to the maintenance of pet wellness, the bureau director of BCAS, Dr. René Varela, has said in the county's press release, "In addition to low-cost or free services and available educational resources, we are always looking for ways to expand the support we offer." As they observe, animals undeniably make a "huge impact" across the emotional and physical spectrums on the lives they touch.

Multiple avenues are available to take advantage of BCAS's offerings—from rabies clinics providing a vaccine and microchip at $9 to booking an appointment for free microchipping. In the Baldwin Shelter, a pop-up event is scheduled on Mega Microchip Monday. Caring for a pet requires support, which is why BCAS has developed a Pet Care Resource Guide listing local support networks, including low-cost vet care and pet food banks.

Further details about the services provided by BCAS, such as spay and neuter appointments and support available to pet owners, can be found on the BCAS website or by calling 410-887-PAWS (7297).
