In a rather uncommon turn of events for a city's top official, Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott has found himself taking on the role of a juror in the Baltimore Circuit Court. As the City of Baltimore Mayor's Office announced earlier today, this unusual duty for a sitting mayor will see a temporary reshuffling of his public duties.
Having been selected as an alternate juror, the mayor, somewhat taken aback by his selection, will be absent from his usual haunts at City Hall, altering his schedule for the coming days. "Jury service is one of our most important civic duties, which ensures our judicial system functions properly," Mayor Scott said, according to the Mayor's Office.
The specific case for which Mayor Scott will serve has not been disclosed, in keeping with the privacy surrounding jury deliberations. However, his office pledged to keep the public updated on the necessary adjustments to his work schedule and his availability for city management matters while he's serving the court.
