The fall season in Baltimore is shaping up to bring a mix of weather patterns as we move through the week. A weak cold front will sweep through tonight, and milder temperatures will occur shortly after that. According to the National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC, this front will dissipate soon after, making way for high pressure and a mild-mannered middle of the week.
Today, folks are likely to glimpse at the Alleghenies perhaps an hour or two of the afternoon sun, owing to some clearing in the early evening, with sunset times before 7 PM. On the other hand, the rest of Baltimore shouldn’t get their hopes up for much daylight, with clouds expected to stay throughout the night. The National Weather Service anticipates temperatures settling in the upper 60s to low 70s territory for most areas, while the mountains are likely slightly cooler.
As we move into Thursday and Friday, the weather over Baltimore remains a topic of mild fluctuations. After the remnants of the cold front vacate, a surface high pressure to the north is expected to bring more sunshine and a slight temperature increase, which could reach the mid-70s. Despite an enhanced lift that might lead to afternoon showers over the Potomac Highlands and into the Shenandoah Valley on Friday, if surface heating is ample, an isolated thunder isn't out of the realm of possibility.
All locales currently deal with LIFR to IFR ceilings in aviation but may see some improvement to MVFR by afternoon hours. The weather-related disruptions are, however, not expected to linger past the weekend. For mariners, weak gradients will mean sub-advisory winds on the water for the next few days. The weekend itself is posed to be clear sailing with light and variable winds anticipated.
