Baltimore residents should brace for a meteorological mixed bag in the coming days, as a departing high-pressure system leaves behind warm and dry conditions that will not last. According to the National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC, a cold front is on the approach, meaning those light rain showers could start to appear, particularly west of the Blue Ridge quickly. For now, it's fair skies with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s for some, while the rest can expect a range of low to mid-70s in the afternoon and evening.
The oncoming cold front will bring the potential for rain, as well as noticeably cooler temperatures and stronger winds. Winds are expected to ramp up from the southwest into the 20 to 30 mph zone, with a few gusts possibly getting even friskier along the ridges. Overnight lows on Friday will drop into the 30s and 40s, depending on your location, with the weekend chill lingering as an area of high pressure settles in.
Forecasters are keeping an eye on the skies as next week's weather takes shape. A warm front and Gulf moisture are slated to bring the threat of rain by Sunday. Thanks to a persistent southerly flow, the National Weather Service is anticipating a temperature spike into the 70s by Tuesday.
Amid these shifts, aviation conditions should mostly stay VFR (Visual Flight Rules), with some turbulence expected heading into the weekend due to the looming frontal passages. Marine conditions will similarly see some action, with a Small Craft Advisory kicking in later today through Friday morning as the cold front makes its presence felt in the waters.
Record warmth has been flirting with the Baltimore area this Halloween, with highs potentially creeping near October 31st records. However, as this mix of pressure systems and fronts plays out, residents and visitors need to keep a coat handy – the forecasted briskness is coming to town, and it's not bearing treats.
