Bodycam Footage of Police Standoff in Milwaukee Released, Suspect Deonandre Harvey Martin Fatally Shot by Officer

Milwaukee authorities have released bodycam footage of a police standoff that turned deadly on October 4. According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the incident, which occurred on the 4100-block of N 68th Street, began to unfold just after 8:30 a.m. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the footage captures several gunshots coming from inside a residence as two females and an injured, armed man evacuated a second-story porch, helped to safety by responding officers.

As the tense situation escalated, a 33-year-old suspect, identified as Deonandre Harvey Martin, appeared on the porch with a gun. Officers issued commands for him to drop the weapon, which he failed to follow, prompting an officer to quickly open fire. However, the video released to the public stopped short of showing this critical moment. The officer, as documented by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, is a 28-year-old man with three years on the force and is now on administrative duty as the investigation proceeds.

After initial attempts at negotiation failed, tactical teams were sent into the home, where they found Martin deceased from a gunshot wound. A preliminary autopsy report from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office obtained by WTMJ confirmed that the wound was caused by police gunfire. The wounded man who had escaped from the porch was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, although current details about his condition are absent.
