Boulder County is stepping up its game to ensure voting accessibility for all this coming Wednesday, October 23rd, with an Early Voting Event. In a significant move to empower voters with disabilities, Boulder County Elections has teamed up with the Center for People With Disabilities (CPWD) to host the event at the CPWD Boulder office, making the vote more approachable for those who often face hurdles in casting their ballots.

The event, lasting from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1675 Range Street, isn't just for show, it’s a beacon of inclusivity, offering a suite of services that cover the gamut from in-person voting with accessible equipment to Spanish language ballots and even the chance to fix signature discrepancies on mail ballots, it's more than just voting, it's a chance to register or update voter information, and it all aligns with the Center's goal to dismantle barriers toward independent living. An ASL interpreter will stand by, ready to make the process smoother for voters who are hard of hearing or deaf, according to Boulder County.

It's a continuation of efforts that began during the June Primary, where the partnership provided a voting experience at CPWD, recounted Molly Fitzpatrick, Boulder County Clerk & Recorder. "We understand the voting process can be intimidating, especially for those from historically excluded communities or those that feel they face barriers to vote," she said, as per Boulder County. CPWD's Community Organizer, Craig Towler, also expressed gratitude, acknowledging that while Colorado has made strides in voter accessibility, personal participation barriers still loom large for some.

Boulder County doesn't want anyone left behind when it comes to civic engagement, hence residents aren't required to fret over registration deadlines; Colorado law permits voter registration up to and including Election Day with a valid ID, for which a list of accepted forms is provided at BoCo.org/VotingID. And if Boulder is a stretch too far, CPWD isn't leaving anything to chance offering rides for Longmont community members; reach out at [email protected] or call (720) 213-6293 to seal your spot in the van heading to the polls. Voters needing ADA accommodations, and past ASL interpretation, are urged to email [email protected] or to dial 303-441-1386, allowing at least two business days before the event to make adequate preparations.
