Canton's cherished Taggarts Ice Cream Parlor is set to swiftly reopen its doors to the dining public tomorrow, following a disruptive incident in September when a stolen vehicle slammed through its storefront. Due to the damage incurred, the establishment, steeped in history since its 1926 inception, has been limited to offering takeout and a smattering of outdoor and parlor area seating.
According to FOX8 News, the Ohio State Highway Patrol's pursuit of a stolen car resulted in a high-speed chase that culminated with the rogue vehicle crashing into Taggarts, fortunately resulting in no injuries. Efforts to make the necessary repairs have now concluded, much to the delight of both the owners and customers, who have eagerly awaited the return to normalcy.
In a social media update, Taggarts expressed gratitude for the community's support and patience, noting, "We are back friends! This Friday, November 1st! The dining room will re-open. Hours from 11am - 10pm." The jubilant announcement was accompanied by a caveat for diners anticipating the full experience, "Our long booth will be out soon and we do not have high chairs just yet!" This statement was echoed by WKYC, which revealed the re-establishment of the eatery's operations.
Owner Mindy Mullaly confirmed with The Canton Repository that new custom-made booths and benches have been built, signifying Taggarts's determination to adapt and rebuild swiftly in the aftermath of the incident. Taggarts Ice Cream welcomes guests to its storied locale daily starting at 11 a.m., inviting them to fully immerse themselves in the sit-down treat experience once more.
The catastrophic event, which took a peaceful turn as the driver was apprehended by Canton police shortly after fleeing the scene, has underscored the resilience of a beloved local business. Identified as Preston Cingle, the 23-year-old man behind the wheel currently faces charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle impaired (OVI), as WKYC details.
