Chatham County Public Libraries is sparking inspiration amongst local teens with an invitation to enter their third annual Teen Writing Contest. The competition, organized by the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) of the Chatham Community Library, is open to students in grades 6-12 residing in Chatham County. These young scribes are encouraged to submit an original piece, may it be fiction or nonfiction, staying within the limit of 3,000 words.
Beginning on November 1, the contest will allow participants to freely express their literary talents until the submission deadline strikes at 11:59 p.m. on December 1. Teens with a knack for spinning tales or uncovering truths in written form are to kindly send their entries via email to Kathleen Pierce, the Youth Services Library Assistant and TAB advisor, overseeing this event.
Judging will be conducted by the members of the TAB themselves, giving peers the opportunity not just to compete but also to critically assess the work of their contemporaries. Winners of the contest can expect to receive prizes that combine the joy of victory with the delight of further reading; gift cards to McIntyre's Books in Pittsboro will be awarded to the top three entries, encouraging a continuous cycle of literary engagement.
Generous support from the Friends of the Chatham Community Library has made it possible to offer these rewards. The Teen Writing Contest stands not just as a testament to the potential within these young minds, but also as a reflection of the community's commitment in to nurture this potential.
