Bundle up, Las Vegas! A cool airstream is set to keep temperatures below average through tomorrow. According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, the city will see morning lows in the upper 40s and afternoon highs reaching only into the low 70s for the next couple of days. So it's definitely time to dig out those jackets.
Not to mention, we can expect to briskly pick up our pace into the weekend when another weather system makes its grand entrance. This could mean windier conditions, a smattering of showers, and even light mountain snowfall, as per the latest forecast. If you have outdoor plans, it might just be time to reconsider, or at least come prepared for a sudden change in weather.
The short-term forecast seems pretty straightforward: zonal patterns today and tomorrow with a dash of wind in the afternoons. But looking ahead, the long-term forecast is a veritable shuffle of possibilities. Weather models are currently doing a bit of a dance between an inland versus a more coastal trajectory for the upcoming trough.
What this means for Las Vegans and their neighboring regions is a chance for precipitation over the weekend that might come in waves. Snow levels are initially predicted to start at 6500 to 7000 feet on Saturday, dropping to 5500-6000 feet by Sunday evening. The area is expected to eventually dry out again come Monday and Tuesday.
Aviation-wise, things look smooth for the most part. The forecast predicts light and variable winds will soon shift to south-southwest, gusting at 15-20 knots for Harry Reid and surrounding regions. VFR conditions are expected to maintain, so those cirrus clouds should be little more than a picturesque backdrop for flyers.
If you're a weather spotter, it's your time to shine. The NWS is calling on you to report any significant weather or impacts as they roll in. Let's stay informed and safe out there!
