In a recent development that marks the third arrest within a 24-hour window at Clemens High School, a student faces a third-degree felony charge after making a terroristic threat, as reported by the Schertz Police Department. According to KSAT, the incident involved the student threatening to bring explosives and carry out a shooting at the school, leading to the arrest.
The latest arrest follows two others where students were similarly detained for terroristic threats, this wave of alarming incidents at Clemens High School, prompting heightened vigilance within the community, and authorities are urging parents to discuss the gravity of such threats with their children, emphasizing the serious and enduring repercussions of making such threats, as detailed in a statement from Schertz Police Department, "There are lifelong consequences for making such threats," as per KENS 5. The Schertz Police Department also encouraged community members to report any suspicious activities immediately.
On the preceding Tuesday, two students found themselves in custody after a gun, later identified as stolen, was discovered in a backpack during an after-school event, a matter separate from Wednesday's arrest, "making threats to bring an explosive to school and to shoot up the school," according to an article from KENS 5. These incidents come as Texas's Department of Public Safety reported a significant increase in "school safety-related reports," jumping from 89 in September of last year to 204 in the same month this year as obtained by the iWatchTexas system, some of which involved potential threats.
In the wake of these alarming events, the Schertz Police Department has reiterated its call to community members reminding them of the importance of vigilance and communication, with officials stating, "We want to remind our community members that if you hear or see something suspicious, please report it to the police," as reported by KENS 5. They have also provided contact information for the Schertz Police Department, (210) 619-1200, for anyone to report any suspicious activities or concerns they might have about school safety or threats.
