Tragedy has struck northeastern Colorado with two separate fatal incidents on Highway 34, casting a shadow over the local community and bringing traffic to a standstill. In the first incident, which occurred on September 15, a teen driver collided head-on with a vehicle near Wiggins, leading to the deaths of Sandy and Floyd O'Dowd, a beloved couple from Fleming known for their mobile tattoo shop, as reported by 9News. Floyd O'Dowd, an 80-year-old storyteller described by his children as caring and kind, together with his wife Sandy, will be remembered in a service taking place this weekend.
On a separate occasion, early Friday morning, another fatal crash left two dead after a vehicle rolled over on Highway 34, near Highway 257, causing major traffic disruptions and road closures, as detailed by Denver7. The eastbound lanes have since reopened but advised motorists of potential delays because westbound Highway 34 remained closed at Highway 257 due to ongoing investigations and clearing operations, said Greeley Police, urging drivers to find alternative routes out of Greeley.
According to KDVR, the city of Greeley indicated that the closure following the most recent crash is expected to last several hours, impacting not only through traffic on one of the area's major roadways but also the daily lives of residents and businesses relying on this artery for their livelihood and day-to-day activities.
