A man from Compton has been charged in the 2023 traffic collision that led to the death of Manhattan Beach Police Officer Chad Swanson. 58-year-old Raymond Eugene Sanders faces a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge without gross negligence, as announced by Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, in a statement obtained by FOX LA. Swanson, aged 35, was fatally injured when he was ejected from his motorcycle on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway.
Falling cargo from Sanders' truck, specifically boxes of lighting fixtures that were improperly secured, was cited as a crucial factor in the crash that killed Swanson on Oct. 4, 2023. Gascón, echoing the tragic implications of the accident, said, "The life of Officer Swanson, a husband and father of three young children was tragically cut short," as reported by FOX LA.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Sanders is set to appear in court on Jan. 3 for the incident. The man charged could face up to a year in county jail if convicted.
