Crime Stoppers of Houston is now offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the suspected road rage murder of 19-year-old Cody Johnson. It has been one week since Johnson was found fatally shot inside his 2011 black Chevy Camaro along the I-10 Katy Freeway service road, a scene described by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez as one where detectives have been laboring to collect any semblance of evidence, examining area surveillance and calling for the public's assistance, as reported by ABC13.
The young man's death contributes to a disturbing trend that has placed Houston at the forefront of the nation in road rage fatalities, based on statistics by The Trace nonprofit citing 207 Houstonians impacted by such violence from 2014 to 2023, according to Houston Chronicle.
During a news conference with the victim's family, the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit underscored the importance of public cooperation, as they seek dashcam footage, eyewitness accounts, and any other leads that might culminate in identifying those responsible for taking the life of Johnson.
Johnson's parents, in a heartrending appeal, beseeched the community to step forward with any knowledge or footage related last Friday, with his mother Amy Juneau imploring, "Just please, as parents, we just want answers about our son and any leads, anything. Any dash cam [videos]. Anybody who saw anything around that area that night, if you could just reach out to Harris County Crime Stoppers just to help us have closure. We don't want to let these people get anybody else, do this to anybody else," as noted by ABC13.
