A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Atlanta from Las Vegas faced an unexpected issue Monday, leading to the aborting of its takeoff at Harry Reid International Airport. Flight 777, which was set to depart at 12:15 p.m., experienced engine problems during acceleration, prompting the crew to halt the takeoff and return the aircraft safely to the gate, KTNV reported.
Following the incident, all passengers and crew, consisting of 261 customers and nine crew members, were deplaned without any reports of injury. Delta Airlines, in a statement provided to both FOX5 Vegas, stated, "We are working to reaccommodate customers to their final destination, and we apologize for their delay in their travel." The compromised plane remained grounded as emergency personnel examined the aircraft and confirmed that ignited fuel had exited the engine as it is designed to do in such events.
The Federal Aviation Administration has taken notice of the issue and is conducting an investigation. This marks the second such investigation the FAA has launched this month relating to aircraft troubles in Las Vegas.
Delta officials have confirmed that the aircraft will be thoroughly inspected and maintained to identify and address any potential issues. The cause of the engine malfunction has not been revealed. In response to the incident, Delta's corporate communications team emphasized their commitment to passenger safety and the reliability of their fleet.
