The Fox Theatre, an emblem of Detroit's rich architectural history and cultural legacy, is currently showcasing an extensive seating renovation that marries classic aesthetics with contemporary convenience. Supervised by the Ilitch family, which has been involved with the Fox since 1988, the theater has replaced its near-century-old seats with new ones that replicate the original 1928 designs, blending historical authenticity with modern features. According to WWJ Newsradio, this includes a new wayfinding system with lighted row illuminators and cup holders for an enhanced patron experience.

In a detailed commitment to accuracy, Tim Padgett, senior VP of venue operations with Ilitch Sports and Entertainment, explained to WWJ Newsradio, "The fabric on the seats, as an example, we wanted to make sure that the fabric was accurate to 1928 and there’s no drawings or anything, so we had to go back to original, archival photos." This diligence ensures that visitors can enjoy performances in a space that feels both historic and upgraded. The theater, which has been a host to legendary artists and countless memories, anticipates a full schedule of events, including a variety of holiday shows.

In an interview obtained by WXYZ, Padgett noted further improvements such as illuminated aisle markings to simplify seat finding for the guests. Highlighting the theater's ongoing commitment to its iconic status, Padgett stated, "The Fox is a jewel in this city. It’s generated thousands and millions of memories for people and ever since the Ilitchs took over in 1988, they’ve been investing heavily making sure it’s world-class."
