The beloved mascot of Bob's Big Boy in Downey has undergone a rather spooky transformation after falling victim to an unfortunate incident late in August. The large, blue-eyed statue, a longstanding fixture at the restaurant, was damaged when a car struck a fire hydrant, sending debris hurtling toward it and causing significant damage to Bob, as reported by CBS News. As the establishment works on repairs, they've decided to infuse a bit of Halloween spirit into the scene.
Ahead of the much anticipated restoration, the distressed figure is now adorned in the likeness of Frankenstein's monster for the Halloween season. With a fresh coat of green paint and what appears to be a zombie brain atop his head, the statue is capturing attention in a way it hadn't before. An Instagram post from the diner's official account proudly exclaims, "IT'S ALIVE !! 💚," as evidenced in a post on their Instagram page.
This creative approach is more than just a nod to the frightful festivities of October, it serves as a fun and engaging method to gather the community's support for the statue's restoration. “Don’t worry, I’ll be back!” has become a reassuring message displayed on "Bob," reinforcing the commitment to bringing the icon back to its former glory as highlighted by KTLA.
Adding to the Halloween hijinks, the restaurant has planned a "Trunk or Treat" event on October 31, from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., extending the festive engagement with their customer base. Prior to Bob's monster makeover for the season, in September he was donned with a green hat to cover the damaged parts of the cranium—seamlessly incorporating the injury into the new, ghoulish redesign.
