In South Los Angeles, the aftermath of a street takeover has left a community grappling with extensive vehicular damage. Early Monday morning, a driver in a stolen Infiniti sedan allegedly fleeing a street takeover, collided with approximately a dozen parked vehicles, as reported by ABC7. The incident occurred at South San Pedro Street and Colden Avenue intersect. It involved the driver of the Infiniti losing control and smashing into parked cars along the street.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the incident as LAPD officers arrived to disband the unauthorized street event. Though not categorized as a police pursuit the crash resulted in the arrest of the driver, as KTLA noted, the coincidence of an armed man being taken into custody in the same vicinity around the same time as the street takeover. It remains unclear if the incidents were related or if any firearms were recovered.
Carlos Quintana, one such affected resident, expressed his concern, stating, "I have to wait to see what insurance says about it," as his and his granddaughter's vehicles were severely damaged. Other South L.A. residents, like Dulce Castelan, indicated to ABC7 that such disturbances are common in the neighborhood and that the latest incident is "really heartbreaking."
