The City of Duncanville, following guidance from Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS), has confirmed plans for ground mosquito spraying today and tomorrow to combat the detected presence of West Nile Virus. Residents in the 75137 zip code area can expect spraying activities to occur between the hours of 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, contingent on favorable weather conditions.
With the burden of disease at the forefront of city officials' minds, the targeted efforts are a response to West Nile Virus being found within a localized mosquito trap. According to the City of Duncanville, the designated area for spraying is primarily north of the southern city limits, confined by W. Wheatland Rd. and E. Wheatland Rd. on the north, Santa Fe Trail to the west, and E. Hwy. 67 on the east.
Concerned individuals who prefer their premises remain untouched by the spraying endeavors have the option to opt out. The City has laid out an email communication channel where residents can send their requests to Kiki Smith at [email protected] or Vickie Sloan at [email protected], and be added to a no-spray list. Furthermore, the plans include a backup scenario where should weather interfere on Thursday, operations will shift to encompass Friday and Saturday nights.
The pesticide in use, permethrin, is a longtime ally in the ongoing war against mosquitoes and the diseases they carry. A synthetic compound known for its efficacy, permethrin has been part of the Environmental Protection Agency's roster since 1979, a testament to the pragmatic approach of municipal health strategies when it comes to insect control. Citizens within the impacted zones are advised to seek refuge indoors during the scheduled spraying windows and make arrangements for their pets to do the same.
