Veterans in Durham County can look forward to improved accessibility with their Veteran Services Department. As reported by Durham County's official news release, starting October 14, the department will operate from a new address at 201 N Roxboro Street in downtown Durham, formerly occupied by the Durham County Board of Elections.
Before making a trek to the new location, it's worth noting that the current office will shut down at its current residence in the Human Services Building, 414 E Main Street, at the end of the day on October 7. Subsequently, from October 8 to October 11, the office will be closed to the public to help facilitate the move, according to the same announcement on the Durham County website.
The new site was chosen with the veterans' needs in mind. "Our relocation to this site is centered on providing better accessibility and convenience for our veterans, their families, and our community," Durham County Veteran Services Director Lois Harvin-Ravin stated on the Durham County website. The new location offers amenities such as front-door parking, which aims to ease access for individuals grappling with mobility issues.
For veterans in need of assistance during the transition period, immediate help is reachable through the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs at 1-800-827-1000 for general queries. Alternatively, the Durham VA Health Care System can be reached at 919-286-0411 for pressing medical concerns, as clearly stated by the Durham County's official news release.
Moreover, residents will be alerted to the change by signage, strategically placed both in and outside of the Human Services Building and at the new Roxboro Street office. Harvin-Ravin highlighted the importance of the move on the Durham County website: "This move reflects our ongoing commitment to improving services and ensuring that all who visit can do so with comfort and convenience." The department expects that the new centrally-located facility will have a positive impact on the service experience for veterans and their families.
Contact information for inquiries about the move or services remains available. Durham County Department of Veteran Services can be reached at 919-560-8387, or via email at [email protected]. For further details, their webpage remains a useful resource.
