The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in partnership with the Durham County Cooperative Extension, is ready to help you dispose of unwanted pesticides. On October 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Cooperative Extension offices at 721 Foster Street in downtown Durham will host a Pesticide Collection Day, according to the Durham County.
However, if you need to get rid of liquid pesticide containers larger than 5 gallons or unlabeled pesticides, contact John Lyttle at the Cooperative Extension Office for advice before coming. This step will help prevent any issues on collection day. This program is mainly designed to support local farmers and homeowners, ensuring safety and environmental health. The Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program has clear guidelines to avoid overextending its budget, so it does not collect from larger pesticide dealerships and businesses, as stated by the Durham County.
For further inquiries or clarifications, contact John Lyttle, Extension Agent for Agriculture-Small Farms & Local Foods. You can reach him directly via email at [email protected], as mentioned by the Durham County.
