In a statement from the Anne Arundel County Police Department, notable seizures of suspected drugs and a cache of firearms followed a traffic stop in Edgewater earlier this week. Detectives pulled over a white 2016 Ford Fiesta on Central Avenue and Muddy Creek Road on October 2. During the stop, approximately 6.6 grams of suspected cocaine and 31 suspected Oxycodone tablets, weighing around 3.2 grams, were discovered and seized. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Benjamin William Monias of Edgewater, was arrested and charged with possession.
The investigation took a deeper dive the next day when search warrants were executed at two residences associated with Monias. At home on Bay Ridge Road, investigators found an assortment of firearms, including several 1911 model handguns, a .22 caliber rifle, and an AR-15 lower receiver, among others. Monias, already facing drug charges, was further charged with multiple weapons violations upon the discovery of these items, as he is prohibited from possessing firearms, as reported by the Anne Arundel County Police Department press release.
A second residence was searched on South River Clubhouse Road in Harwood, leading to the seizure of additional firearms, including a Glenfield Model 60 and a Glock Model 21. The continued discovery of firearms has punctuated the scope of Monias's alleged involvement in illegal activities. However, the Anne Arundel County Police have not released further details on his history with firearms or any additional suspects that may be under investigation.
Individuals with information regarding this situation are encouraged to reach out to the department, contributing to the community's broader effort to address crime.
