Motorists navigating US 40 in Maryland should brace for disruptions starting this week. According to a report by FOX Baltimore, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will implement lane closures between MD 700 and Middle River Road from Fall 2024 through late Spring 2025. The closures, occasioned by the installation of upgraded concrete traffic barriers, will affect traffic Monday through Friday and certain overnight periods.
The much-needed safety enhancements cost $1.2 million and are scheduled to commence on Thursday, October 24. Construction crews will actively remove and then replace sections of the traffic barrier end treatments, causing temporary lane closures and traffic pattern changes that could impact daily commutes. In a prepared statement, the department underscored the importance of driver vigilance, urging motorists to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits and other traffic pattern changes.
Behind the project is contractor L. S. Lee, Inc. of York, PA, and subcontractor Priority Construction Corp. of Baltimore will participate in the work throughout the fall and winter months. Nottingham MD highlights that this upgrade is designed to reinforce safety measures and ensure the longevity of these traffic barriers.
