Last Thursday, the Fayetteville Police Department arrested Jerry Milan Jr., a 37-year-old Black male, on serious charges including 13 counts of indecent liberties with a child, following an investigation by the department's Special Victims Unit, spanning incidents from 2015 to 2024.
The investigation, which brought to light the distressing allegations against Milan, resulted in a secured bond set at $250,000; he's currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center, the police department has been delving into these accusations with a meticulousness that speaks to the sensitivity and gravity of such cases, which often remain shrouded in societal stigmas and individual trauma.
In addition to the indecent liberties charges, Milan faces three counts of statutory sex offense with a child less than 15 and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, these charges reflect the severe nature of the accusations and highlight the ongoing concerns about the safety of minors in the vicinity of alleged predators, the responsibility of the community, and law enforcement to act in defense of the vulnerable cannot be overstated, nor can the complexity of the legal proceedings that ensure a fair trial.
The story, which first appeared on the City of Fayetteville's official website, is still unfolding with additional information expected as the case progresses through the judicial system, making it imperative that the public reserve judgment and adhere to the fundamental principle of presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
