The Austin Fire Department later clarified that the emergency arose not from an actual structural failure, but as part of their confined space training drill. An actor, engaged in the simulation, required medical attention following the exercise. Austin-Travis County EMS, who were already on site as part of the drill, quickly adapted to the real emergency, providing needed medical care. Although details on the specific nature of the medical emergency have not been released, Austin-Travis County EMS conveyed through social media that, the affected individual was successfully extricated and prepared for transport.

The patient was transported to St. David’s North Austin Medical Center. The medical complaints were stated as non-life threatening by Austin-Travis County EMS, which was confirmed by subsequent hospital reports.
