A Fontana man was arrested after reportedly assaulting three San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies who required medical attention following the encounter. The incident occurred on the afternoon of October 20 near the intersection of San Bernardino Avenue and Linden Avenue, in unincorporated Bloomington, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
The deputies responded to a burglary alarm initially and were shortly after alerted to a man, later identified as Emmanuel Williams, 35, behaving erratically in traffic. Williams attempted to hastily evade arrest and narrowly missed being struck by cars. Deputies, along with a Fontana Police Officer, managed to eventually detain Williams after a significant struggle, during which two deputies sustained minor injuries.
Following the arrest, the situation escalated when Williams bit a third deputy, inflicting minor injuries. Williams himself was subsequently brought to a local hospital for pre-existing medical conditions before being booked at the West Valley Detention Center. He faces charges of obstructing/resisting an officer as noted in the official report.
The three injured deputies were treated at a hospital and have since been released. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is urging anyone with information about this event to dutifully contact the Fontana Sheriff’s Station at (909) 356-6767.
