
A former teacher from Bastrop ISD, Roy Franks Sr., has been handed down a sentence of two years under community supervision, this follows a plea deal stemming from allegations of indecency with students. According to KXAN, Franks entered a guilty plea in June to two counts of indecent assault by contact, resulting from incidents in 2021 and 2022.
As conditions of the plea agreement, additional charges of improper relationship between educator and student were dismissed. Franks has also agreed to avoid any employment involving contact with minors and is restricted from engaging with minors outside his family. The district previously reported on March 25, 2022, an allegation against Franks, which led to his immediate leave and subsequent resignation on April 6, according to KVUE.
The former Cedar Creek High School teacher initially faced charges including two counts of improper relationship and two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact. These charges were filed on June 14, and reflect the gravity of the allegations that surfaced.
Following the due process, Bastrop ISD affirmed its commitment to student safety in a district statement, "Bastrop ISD's highest priority is the safety of our students, and we stand firm in that commitment," expressing full cooperation with law enforcement. This case, marked by the community and law enforcement's pursuit of justice, underlines the district's protocols in dealing with such sensitive issues, the investigation has been led by the Bastrop ISD Police Department with collaboration from Child Protective Services and the State Board for Educator Certification.
