Former Las Vegas city councilwoman Michele Fiore has been convicted on all counts of wire fraud, after a federal trial uncovered her scheming façade behind a charitable pledge. Fiore, 54, faced the justice system in a Nevada District Court where, according to News3LV, evidence showed she exploited goodwill, promising to honor fallen police officers with statues funded by public donations.
Despite assurances that "100% of the contributions" would go towards memorializing lost heroes, the ex-councilwoman and former gubernatorial candidate pocketed the monies, which exceeded $70,000. The funds, rather than serving their noble intent, were funneled into Fiore’s personal expenses such as, rent, political fundraising activities, and even her daughter's wedding, as highlighted by News3LV.
The jury found Fiore guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and six counts of wire fraud, delivering a unanimous verdict that shattered the trust she had with her community. As the verdict was read, the courtroom felt the weight of justice, countering the deceit she had sown. Sentencing is set for January 6, 2025, and Fiore could face up to 20 years for each count, as per FOX5. The federal district court judge will consider various factors in determining her sentence, including the extent of her fraud and the betrayal of those who sought to honor the fallen.
