The City of Fort Worth's Transportation & Public Works Department has been honored with the Gold Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association. The award was given in recognition of their exemplary planning efforts on the East Berry Corridor Plan, which seeks to revitalize and transform part of East Berry Street into a more accessible and vibrant area, according to the City of Fort Worth.

Held in Allen, Texas, the awards ceremony followed a three-day conference that celebrated Texas' city planning initiatives. The East Berry Street Corridor Plan extends eastward from I-35W and incorporates an extensive study to revamp the thoroughfare, ensuring it can cater to pedestrians, cyclists, and public transportation users alike. Feedback was actively solicited from the community through a series of open houses, ensuring that the residents' voices, were not just heard but integral to the development of the project.

Importantly, the planning success for the East Berry corridor was a collaborative effort involving not only the TPW but also several other city departments. Contributors included Development Services, FWLab, Fort Worth Public Library, Economic Development, Park & Recreation, and others, each playing a vital role in the careful crafting of the corridor's future. The study eventually outlined actionable steps, to nurture a space that could evolve with the changing dynamics of Fort Worth's urban fabric.
