
The City of Goldsboro faced a night of violence on Saturday as two separate shootings resulted in one fatality and left another man in critical condition. According to WRAL, the Goldsboro Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 800 block of Newsome Street at approximately 9:22 p.m. in response to a ShotSpotter alert and several 911 calls, officials arrived on the scene to discover 26-year-old Daquan Almanta Simms with multiple gunshot wounds, he was quickly transported to UNC Health Wayne and later flown to ECU Health in Greenville for further treatment; however, Simms succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
The second incident occurred later that same night when officers responded to a gunshot victim who had been brought into UNC Health Wayne by private vehicle around 11:50 p.m. Officers identified the victim as Anthony Ray Capps Jr., a 39-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. According to CBS 17, "the friend who drove the victim to the hospital told officers that the shooting occurred in the area of Sixth Street and Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro." Following the initial care at UNC Health Wayne, Capps Jr. was also transferred to the ECU Medical Center for ongoing critical care.
As the city grapples with the aftermath of these violent acts no suspects have been identified or apprehended in connection to the shootings, the Goldsboro Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau has taken the lead on the investigations which remain active, per a report from Goldsboro Daily News.
