Texas Governor Greg Abbott has named Sergio Saenz to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, a move that carries implications for the state's oversight of its law enforcement personnel. The appointment, announced yesterday, tasks Saenz with helping to establish and uphold standards for the training and ethical conduct of those keeping the peace across the Lone Star State. As per the official statement from the Office of the Texas Governor, Saenz's term is slated to conclude at the end of August in 2027.
The decision to appoint an individual with such a varied corporate and aeronautic background—rather than a law enforcement lifer—is notable. Involved in both the Rush Salt presidency and the helm of Pro Sodio SA de CV, an aluminum flux corporation with international reach, Saenz is not unknown to public service.
Volunteering previously as a pilot for Angel Flight South Central, his experience is rounded off with stints on the Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority and both air mobility and airport planning committees within Texas. With degrees in Criminal Justice and an MBA from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Saenz's expertise is nothing if not variegated.
