Granite Bay was the scene of a somber investigation on Monday, as the Placer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed two fatalities in a quiet suburban home. After a tension-filled morning, law enforcement detained a suspect at the residence along Oak Leaf Way. According to ABC10, deputies arrived on scene after 8 a.m., but details on what prompted their visit have yet to unfold fully.
The situation escalated when the sheriff's office's special enforcement team and crisis negotiators were called in after officials couldn't make contact with a man, believed to be in his mid-30s, inside the house. It wasn't until around 11:45 a.m. that the man, identified as 36-year-old Josef Meinzer, surrendered and was detained by authorities. Subsequently, law enforcement found the bodies of a man and a woman, prompting an investigation into the circumstances of their deaths. "He did come out and was detained. Our investigators then went inside the home, and once inside, they found a man and woman both deceased. Their deaths are being investigated as a homicide," Elise Soviar with the Placer County Sheriff's Office told KCRA.
Meinzer is currently at the Placer County Jail facing two murder charges. Details about his connection to the two victims and a possible motive are not clear. The area on Oak Leaf Way, which was closed off after the incident, has been reopened, as per ABC10. Officials have not indicated if any weapons were found at the scene, adding another layer of mystery to the case.
