On Tuesday, a routine traffic stop on Memorial Bridge in Healdsburg became the focal point for a significant police bust involving a range of illegal items. According to a social media post by the Healdsburg Police Department, 41-year-old Zachary Gillis-Jones of Santa Rosa was pulled over for speeding at about 4:20 PM, only for the situation to reveal a litany of charges that soon followed. A court order for a weapons search was already in place for Gillis-Jones.
The stop uncovered "Two loaded firearms with large capacity magazines, Multiple bags of suspected cocaine, Various packaging and sales materials, Numerous prescription medications, A homemade destructive device, Various calibers of ammunition," all located near a juvenile. This discovery led to Gillis-Jones's arrest on several charges, the police department statement read, including "Felony child endangerment, Transporting a controlled substance for sale, Possession of a controlled substance while armed with unregistered firearms, Carrying a concealed firearm a vehicle, Possession of a destructive device, Possession of large capacity magazines, Possession of armor-piercing ammunition." After the arrest, police conducted an additional search warrant at a residence in Santa Rosa, turning up more evidence related to the case.
The HDP emphasized the gravity of the situation stating, "All of these items were located near a juvenile." The cache of illegal armaments and drugs present carries implications that extend beyond mere possession. They suggest active engagement in unlawful distribution and, more disturbingly, the endangerment of a child's safety.
Following the traffic stop and arrest, the Healdsburg Police Department reiterated their dedication to community safety after this event, "We are committed to keeping our community safe. Thank you for your support!"
