Two assault suspects took law enforcement on a perilous journey on Friday night, leading the California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase through Ventura and Los Angeles counties. The suspects’ vehicle, identified as a striking yellow Ford Mustang, was first sought by authorities for an assault and a theft at a Target store in Camarillo, officials stated.

The pursuit began when, according to KTLA, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reported stolen goods from the store. The suspects further aggravated the situation by allegedly ramming a sheriff's patrol car before fleeing the scene. The chase carried on through major freeways including the 101, 405, 105, and 110, with the Mustang reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour, and exhibiting dangerous maneuvers among other vehicles on the road.

In a scene that might have seemed torn from a Hollywood script, the Mustang drove recklessly on the shoulder and weaved through rush-hour traffic, as noted by ABC7. The driver even ventured into a residential area in Inglewood, heightening the risk of the pursuit.

The chase ended when the Mustang, damaged by debris it encountered while dodging traffic, had two tires destroyed. This forced the suspects to stop on a 91 Freeway exit ramp near South Vermont Boulevard and West Artesia Boulevard, CBS News Los Angeles reported. Footage captured by bystanders and news helicopters shows the two male suspects, exiting the vehicle and surrendering to the waiting CHP officers at the scene.

The pursuit, which lasted close to an hour, ended without further incident, or injury to civilians. The suspects now face multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft, evading arrest, and potentially numerous vehicle code violations.
