Hilliard opens its heart and closets as the winter chill creeps in to ensure that local kids stay warm. The city's sixth annual Cram the Cruiser event is in full swing, inviting community members to contribute new winter wear for elementary-aged students in need. According to details shared on the City of Hilliard's official website, collection boxes are placed at select locations throughout the town, including the Hilliard Community Center and the Hilliard Municipal Building.

With the deadline for donations set until December 1st, locals are encouraged to drop off new coats, gloves, hats, and other cold-weather essentials during weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while after-hour donations are also possible at certain sites. In an incredibly heartwarming touch, the Hilliard Tree Lighting event on December 1 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. will feature a cruiser parked near First Responders Park that's eager to be crammed with generosity.

The City of Hilliard’s website notes community leaders' pride in this initiative. "This annual holiday tradition in Hilliard has grown enormously thanks to the generosity of so many residents, businesses, and organizations in the Hilliard community," said Chief of Police Michael Woods. "We take pride knowing this event ensures every child in Hilliard who needs a coat in Hilliard will get one."

The efforts go beyond providing winter clothing, with part of the program's funds supporting local food pantries at Hilliard High School. The kindness of sponsors such as Amazon Web Services and Credit Union of Ohio, among others, ensures no child is left out in the cold without adequate garments. All collected items will be given to K-12 students at Hilliard City Schools, spreading warmth and kindness throughout the student community.
