Wake Forest's business community was disrupted last Saturday when an unidentified driver crashed into the front of Acai Express on Capital Boulevard. The hit-and-run occurred just days before the restaurant was set to open. After causing extensive damage, the vehicle fled the scene, prompting a search for justice.
The collision, reported by WRAL, caused significant damage to the soon-to-open store, which had taken over a year of work to prepare. The owners, just days away from opening, are now facing an uncertain future
As reported by CBS 17, the incident shattered glass and damaged the building. “I mean, we were heartbroken because we were almost ready to open this place and everything construction wise was done,” said Patel. Wake Forest Police have classified the events of last Saturday night as a felony hit-and-run.
A witness at a nearby gas station alerted law enforcement after seeing a car crash into the storefront of a soon-to-open business. Despite the setback, the owners are committed to achieving their business goals. "Me and my husband stick together," said Patel in an ABC11 interview. "We're going to make it happen one day and we haven't lost our spirit." Estimated damages are around $20,000, and the couple hopes to rebuild and open in December. Meanwhile, the Wake Forest Police Department is working to identify the driver responsible for the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
