Honolulu locals and visitors should prepare to adjust their plans as the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts a blend of sun and rain for the coming days. According to the latest update from NWS, moderate easterly winds are bringing moisture and passing showers mostly to the windward and Mauka regions. This pattern of weather is anticipated to persist through today.

As we progress into Thursday and the weekend, winds are expected to ease off, paving the way for sea breezes during the day and shifts to land breezes at night. It's important to note that there may be an opportunity to witness enhanced shower activity over the weekend, as an upper-level disturbance might contribute to heavier rainfall. NWS explained, "An upper level disturbance may enhance showers this weekend," indicating the potential for more pronounced wet weather during that period.

Aviation concerns aren't left out of the picture, with the recent band of clouds causing mountain obscuration across various islands. However, this is set to improve, "AIRMET Sierra currently in effect for those islands will likely be dropped sometime in the next several hours as the batch of clouds lifts north and west as it thins," mentioned the NWS. VFR conditions will largely prevail across leeward regions aside from these temporary visual disturbances.

On the marine front, a moderate trade wind driven by a surface high pressure at a distance of approximately 1,100 nautical miles from Oahu is set to maintain its grip through the day. However, this is poised to change, "This will slacken the high's gradient over the islands and will result in late week trades falling off to gentle to locally moderate breezes," NWS commented, outlining the upcoming shift in sea conditions. Surfers and beachgoers can anticipate a decline in the current northwest-north swell by Thursday but might look forward to more substantial swells predicted to arise early the following week.

As we head into the early parts of next week, the NWS suggests it's not entirely clear how the weather will pan out, with forecasting models offering differing scenarios. Despite this, it is expected that moderate trades should make a return, "Then moderate trades may return early next week," which brings back the familiar breezy conditions Islands' residents are accustomed to.
