The Howard County Department of Public Works is opening its doors for a community outreach meeting on Tuesday, November 12th. According to the Howard County official announcement, the gathering's agenda includes deliberating the installation of a new pocket park in Ellicott City. This proposed green space is set to form along the north side of St. Paul Street, behind a cluster of Main Street properties.
The pocket park initiative is a fragment of a larger scheme, the Ellicott City Safe and Sound Plan, which aims to safeguard the area against natural disasters better. Furthermore, it's integral to the Ellicott City Watershed Master Plan. The new park will provide the community with a fresh recreational area and a necessary pedestrian route between Lower Main Street and St. Paul Street. In an emergency, it promises a critical point of egress to safer grounds for pedestrians.
Howard County residents can expect to see display graphics and a presentation at the meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Roger Carter Community Center's Oella Room. Following the presentation, a question-and-answer session will be held, where public input is welcomed and encouraged. Representatives from the county staff and the project's design consultant will be on hand to discuss the specifics and respond to any queries.
For individuals interested but unable to attend the meeting, the presentation and graphics will become available on the DPW's project website soon after the meeting's conclusion. The project, currently in the early stages of design, is slated to be completed by mid-2025, with construction set to follow.
