The Metropolitan Police Department is currently in the process of investigating a homicide that took place in the Northwest sector of Washington, D.C. The fatal shooting occurred on Friday, at around 5:47 p.m., with an officer from the Fourth District responding to the incident after hearing gunshots while on patrol near Georgia Avenue.
Upon arrival at the 800 block of Quincy Street, the officer discovered an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound. The victim, later identified as 18-year-old Hamza Jamil Mubah-Wrotten of Clarksburg, MD, was promptly transported to a local hospital to treat the life-threatening injuries he suffered. Despite the medical team's efforts to fully save his life, Mubah-Wrotten succumbed to his injuries yesterday and was pronounced dead.
As the Metropolitan Police Department continues to delve into the case, they urge anyone with knowledge about the incident to come forward. According to the official MPD news release, individuals with information should not independently act but are instead encouraged to call the police at (202) 727-9099 or to text their tips to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
The MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that will to lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this violent crime, as part of their ongoing efforts to deter such acts within the District of Columbia.
