Early morning on October 9th saw the Los Angeles Fire Department responding to a structure fire in Boyle Heights. At approximately 5:07 AM, firefighters were dispatched to 412 S Lorena Street, where they encountered a single-family dwelling ablaze. According to an LAFD alert, crews entered "offensive mode" to tackle the fire, with initial reports indicating two people were in need of medical attention and others might be trapped inside.
The fire, which illuminated the early morning sky with its ferocity, demanded additional resources as firefighters pressed in. Although the conditions of the two individuals originally assisted were unknown, paramedics assessed them on-site. The exact number of occupants and the cause of the fire have not yet been revealed to the public.
Fortunately, the combined effort of 46 firefighters managed to extinguish the flames within 17 minutes, achieving a knockdown by 5:24 AM. Once the flames were subdued, firefighters confirmed that no additional persons were found inside the home and that an adjacent back house was defended successfully against damage from the fire, as mentioned in a follow-up LAFD alert.
Both patients, a 45-year-old male and a 65-year-old female, declined further medical treatment or transport, as per the LAFD's report. LAFD will continue its investigation into the incident, seeking to understand its cause, and tabulating the damages incurred.
