Los Angeles police officers found themselves facing a precarious position earlier this week when they responded to a call involving two aggressive dogs in the 77th Street Division. According to the LAPD, the encounter led to an officer-involved shooting, though no animals or humans were injured in the incident.
The situation unfolded on the afternoon of October 16, after a citizen reported being attacked by a Pitbull and a German shepherd—the dogs later spotted near a motorhome were the source of the threat, and the officers, upon arriving, tried to find the owner but as they got out of their vehicle at Raymond Avenue and West 58th Place that's when the animals charged, and shots were fired however, neither dog was struck and they took off, finding their way onto a vacant property, as detailed by the LAPD. The LAPD's Force Investigation Division is currently digging into the details of what went down.
It was further revealed that following the shooting, local animal services were summoned to the scene, yet they concluded that the dogs posed too great a risk to be safely captured. This leaves the owner of the dogs still unknown. "No officers were injured during this incident. The community member who was initially confronted by the dogs had no visible injuries and declined medical treatment," the LAPD stated.
