Las Vegas residents and visitors can expect a cool and dry end to the week, with fall temperatures settling in. However, a weather change is on the horizon for the weekend, bringing breezes, showers, and possible light mountain snow, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Wednesday brought cooler temperatures a few degrees below normal, similar to Tuesday's readings. High clouds from a Pacific Northwest trough moved into the area but were expected to clear by evening. According to the National Weather Service, some locations on the Arizona Strip were already around 32 degrees. Thursday is expected to have similar weather until winds pick up, particularly in northwest San Bernardino County.
Looking ahead, Friday through Tuesday is expected to bring interesting weather. An atmospheric river affecting the West Coast will bring precipitation just across the state line, while southern Nevada can expect more cloud coverage and continued below-average temperatures. Precipitation is anticipated to start Friday night in higher areas to the west, then move into the desert over the weekend. The chances for rain will increase across the southern Sierra, Great Basin, and Mojave Desert from Saturday to Sunday.
In Las Vegas proper, there's a 42% chance of seeing some rain, with a 30% chance for at least a quarter-inch of precipitation. At Mt. Charleston, there's a 40% chance of getting over 4 inches of snow and a 28% chance for more than 8 inches.
Aviation enthusiasts and frequent flyers should watch for winds that may become variable early this morning, shifting to southwesterly by evening. The National Weather Service advises that winds will remain variable throughout the day, with some northerly winds possibly exceeding 10 knots this afternoon near KIFP.
