The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is getting the word out to motorists about the need for some patience and possibly some creative detouring around Las Vegas this weekend. There will be a significant closure of the southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) that drivers should prepare for, as well as various ramp closures within the I-15/I-215 interchange and sections of Frank Sinatra Drive. This series of traffic restrictions starting at 9:00 p.m. this Friday, October 4, through 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 7, is critical for the paving operations planned for the area.

During the closure, southbound I-15 will be inaccessible from Hacienda Avenue to I-215 and several on-ramps and off-ramps will be closed or affected. For instance, the Harmon on-ramp to southbound I-15 will be closed. The recommended detour will reroute southbound I-15 traffic to a Collector-Distributor  road, with two lanes open from Tropicana Avenue, before traffic is allowed to re-enter southbound I-15 past the I-215 interchange, according to Nevada Department of Transportation's announcement.

Additional closures earlier in the week may have already tested driver's patience, with ramps closing as early as 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, and continuing throughout the following days. Thursday, traffic on northbound I-15 saw lane reductions from Warm Springs Road to I-215; while southbound traffic was similarly squeezed between Tropicana Avenue and I-215 starting Thursday evening into early Friday. This carefully orchestrated dance of diversions and roadwork is all part of Nevada Department of Transportation's ongoing efforts to maintain and improve Nevada's highways.

Nevada Department of Transportation warns that the schedule for these closures may change subject to weather conditions or other unforeseen factors.
