Las Vegas Police Sergeant Kevin Menon was released on $100,000 bail after his recent arrest on multiple charges, including two counts of possession of visual representations depicting sexual conduct by persons under 16 years old. According to News 3 Las Vegas, Menon is now under high-level electronic monitoring and must surrender his passport as a condition of his bail.
The case against Menon started in August when he was arrested for illegal actions. As a grand jury indictment was expected, the investigation uncovered more serious allegations, leading to his re-arrest. As reported by Hoodline, the initial charges include eight counts of oppression and two counts of subornation of perjury, accusing Menon of persuading officers to lie.
Grand jury videos reviewed by FOX5 show a pattern of arrests targeting Black men and men of color, often without clear justification. One video features Sergeant Kevin Menon intervening aggressively in an arrest, leading to a confrontation with another officer. Text messages between Menon and other officers indicate a culture of unjustified arrests, including a message where Menon tells an officer to "shoulder check someone and smash." This evidence raises concerns about misconduct in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Menon is set to appear in court again on November 7.
