In a splash of community spirit and much-needed greenery, the Southwest valley of Las Vegas welcomed its latest recreational addition with the debut of Battle Born Park, a nod to Nevada's state slogan and a fresh oasis amidst the desert city's sprawl. The park's inauguration, held on Nevada Day and shepherded by Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones, drew a lively crowd eager to explore its features that include a covered playground, playing fields, and a refreshing splash pad, FOX5 Vegas reported.
Flanked by Reece Reis Elementary and Tarkanian Middle School, the park opens its gates just steps from where local kids hit the books - and now, thanks to two forward-thinking fifth-graders, Jay-Sha Lynn and Jarrett Ilejay from Reece Reis Elementary who brainstormed the park's name, it's where they can also freely leap and play; Jarrett told FOX5 Vegas, "Then I remembered oh wait, this is the battle born state. Why not just put battle born so I wrote battle born and then I submitted it."
According to celebrations last Friday, Commissioner Jones facilitated the ribbon-cutting ceremony laden with community activities ranging from face painting to sports activities, not to mention the local business food samples that residents and families savored as they got their first taste of Battle Born Park's amenities. The festive atmosphere filled the park, fitting for the commemoration of Nevada Day, a state holiday 8 News Now covered.
Embodying the local demand for more communal green spaces, Commissioner Jones emphasized the park's role in fostering familial and community connections stating, "This park represents our commitment to creating a family-friendly environment where the community can come together and thrive," he expressed enthusiasm for the park's potential impact on nearby schools, rounding out his remarks with an outlook towards a more active and interconnected community statements obtained by 8 News Now.
