Las Vegas residents can expect light sprinkles today and gusty winds. "Limited mid-level moisture on the leading edge of a weak trough centered along the central California Coast will result in a few sprinkles or light rain showers across portions of Inyo, Nye and Lincoln counties today through this evening," according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms are unlikely, with chances below 10 percent.
The forecast suggests dry air to return on Wednesday through Friday, with the mercury to stubbornly persist well above seasonal norms. While a weak system is slated to bring potential relief by the weekend, it seems Las Vegas is set to swelter through most of the Mojave Desert zones with highs between 95 and 100 degrees and the Colorado River Valley around 105 degrees for the next few days.
As the week progresses, a high-pressure system will keep temperatures 10 to 12 degrees above average for this time of year. Relief may arrive over the weekend as a northeastern Pacific trough moves inland, but "Even with that cooling, temperatures slated to remain above normal through the first half of October," according to the National Weather Service.
In terms of aviation weather impacts, the National Weather Service indicates a smooth journey for most flyers. "Generally, good aviation conditions will continue today at the terminal, with wind directions following typical diurnal trends and sustained wind speeds remaining 8 knots or less." Only north of the Vegas Valley is where isolated showers may lead to some turbulence in certain approaches. And overnight, as the skies clear up, Wednesday is to boast light winds and VFR (Visual Flight Rules) conditions again.
