Los Angeles County beachgoers, it's time to put a temporary pause on your aquatic adventures. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is waving the red flag at several popular beaches due to unhealthy water conditions. According to a public announcement, excessive bacterial levels have triggered warnings at numerous sites along the coast.
Specific areas highlighted include the entirety of Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey and Walnut Creek at Paradise Cove. Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach also joins the list, with a 100-yard buffer along the coast from the public access steps recommended to be avoided. Other affected locations span from Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro to Redondo Beach at Sapphire St., including, the entire swim areas and 100-yard perimeters surrounding piers and storm drains.
On the brighter side, there's some reprieve for beach lovers. The Department of Public Health has given the all-clear for the Manhattan Beach Pier after recent tests showed the water quality had improved and met State standards. Those eager to dive back into the ocean can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy the sands of Manhattan Beach once again.
While this might put a dampener on some weekend plans, public health takes precedence, after all, the Department isn't trying to spoil your fun but rather keep beachgoers safe. They provide a beach closure hotline, 1-800-525-5662, offering recorded information 24 hours a day, for those who want to stay in the loop.
