The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is waving a caution flag for those planning to plunge into the Pacific at several local beaches. High bacterial levels have prompted officials to advise against swimming, surfing, or playing in the ocean waters at popular spots including Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey, Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach, Santa Monica Pier, and Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu. Specifically, the affected areas extend about 100 yards up and down the coast from each mentioned location, as reported by the County of Los Angeles, California.
These advisories aren't suggestions to take lightly—bacterial levels that exceed health standards can pose significant health risks. The specifics of these advisories were made available through a bulletin from the County's Public Health Department.
On a brighter note, several beaches have been given the all-clear. Water quality levels at Redondo Beach at Sapphire St., Avenue I storm drain at Redondo Beach, Walnut Creek at Paradise Cove, and Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro are now reported to be within State standards, as detailed by the County of Los Angeles, California.
Stay informed on the health of our beaches by checking the County's beach closure hotline, available 24/7 at 1-800-525-5662, or by visiting the Public Health website for a detailed map of impacted locations.
