Authorities apprehended a man following a high-speed chase and subsequent shooting incident involving a Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office deputy. The confrontation occurred near 11800 Westheimer Road around 1:10 a.m. yesterday, according to a news release. Charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and felony evading arrest, Keithan Carl Randall, a 34-year-old male, remains in custody facing serious allegations tied to the aforementioned events.
The deputy, while not hurt, was the target during this altercation. The sequence of events started when deputies noticed a gray Infiniti sedan positioned oddly in traffic, reversing in a moving lane. As the vehicle fled from pursuing officers, the suspect discharged a firearm, striking the deputy vehicle's front left headlight, reported in a statement obtained by the City of Houston News. Throughout this harrowing pursuit, the deputy managed not to fire his weapon.
Sometime after the chase, Randall, placed a 9-1-1 call claiming he had been kidnapped, compelling authorities to locate him at the 1900 block of South Kirkwood Drive. Upon subduing Randall, officers uncovered both the vehicle and evidence of discharged rounds within it. Detectives A. Montoya and J. Cimeni from the HPD Major Assault & Family Violence Division are investigating the peculiar circumstances around the incident, indicating the surprisingly quick shift from chase to a seemingly unrelated 9-1-1 call.
After consultations with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Randall received his charges and was booked into the Harris County Jail.
