Residents of Manor, Texas, have long felt the absence of a nearby grocery store, but that's all set to change by Fall 2025. H-E-B, a Texas grocery chain, has officially begun construction on a new location in the rapidly expanding city. The groundbreaking ceremony, a pivotal step towards addressing food insecurity in the area, took place on Wednesday morning. According to KXAN, the store will feature over 101,000 square feet of space and is part of a larger plan to bring essential services closer to Manor's residents.
The new H-E-B store is a response to a pressing need for better access to groceries, especially for those facing transportation challenges or who are part of the senior community, as Manor's Mayor Dr. Christopher Harvey explained. "There are communities around us that have to travel 10 to 15 miles to a grocery store," Harvey told KVUE. "That's pretty tough, especially people with transportation challenges. Or for our senior community, who always don't have access to someone to take them to the grocery store."
H-E-B is going to not only provide Manor with a grocery store but also introduce other amenities such as a pharmacy, Curbside pick-up, a fuel station, and even a car wash. These details were released by H-E-B during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new location, strategically positioned across from Whataburger on U.S. 290 East, near Walmart. Cathy Harm, H-E-B senior vice president for Central Texas, expressed the company's dedication to serving the community, stating, “It’s always an honor and a privilege to open our first store in a new community, allowing us to serve even more Texans,” in a statement obtained by KXAN. The store's design is to feature a large Curbside area, pharmacy pick-up spaces, a seven-pump fuel station, and a car wash, offering a full suite of services for Manor's growing population.
In addition to breaking ground on their new store, H-E-B has made charitable contributions to the Manor community significantly, donating $5,000 to four local nonprofits, including the Manor ISD Education Foundation, Healing with Horses Ranch, Manor Schoolhouse Foundation, and Jesse Samaripa American Legion Post 331, as per KXAN.
