A Mexican national has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for illegal reentry into the United States, according to an announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice. German Altamirano-Hernandez, aged 42, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard, following a guilty plea earlier this year in June.

Altamirano-Hernandez has a history of entering the U.S. illegally, having been voluntarily removed 10 times between 1999 and 2002, according to court documents on U.S. Attorney's Office website. Despite these multiple removals, he continued to unlawfully reenter the country. In 2005 and again in 2013, he was convicted of illegal reentry after deportation. He seemed to have consistently tried to mend his transgressions behind him by starting anew, but law enforcement agencies have been equally persistent in upholding immigration laws.

The most recent encounter with law enforcement occurred in March 2024, when deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested Altamirano-Hernandez during a traffic stop. He initially provided a false name along with fraudulent identification. The deputies' subsequent search of his vehicle resulted in the discovery of multiple forms of fraudulent ID.

Upon his arrest, Altamirano-Hernandez admitted to deputies that he had once again illegally entered the U.S. This case was investigated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, and Assistant United States Attorney Elisibeth Adams was the prosecutor.
